Justin: The first incarnation of this was a book about patent medicine [ineffective or dangerous but wildly popular concoctions, often including alcohol or drugs, that were sold by traveling salesmen into the early 20 th century]. These are stories celebrating the hundred year anniversary of women getting the bote (some women at least).

So when Sara gets hold of some Tarot cards and suggests they start telling fake fortunes Mina plays along, helping Sara make sure her predictions are right. The McElroys have enough dedicated fans who would’ve happily waited for a delayed publish date rather than read an edition that never should’ve seen print.

Easily a 5 for content (even if none of it was new to me) and the gorgeous layout (illustrations, sidebars for 'fun' facts). The critical eye delivered an accurate picture allowing both my mind and his to soak in the relevant information to attempt to solve the ever growing puzzle of bodies. I've seen a misspelling or two in books before, but The Sawbones Book takes the cake to the point where I was overwhelmingly embarrassed for Sydnee and Justin.

The disturbed relationship to sexuality, death and bodily functions led to the ban on essential achievements of the past. Sawbones’s narration was as clean cut and objective as the scalpel and the mind of he that wields them. Freedom is perfect for parents and schools ready to introduce the topic of slavery and the slave trade to youngsters, and is also an important story sure to move and inform readers of any age. Until Iestyn himself has his new job to worry about – and until, more unexpectedly, someone moves in on his feelings with such force that his world is turned upside down. Justin‘s humor translates well to the written word, and I can hear Sydnee’s reluctant half-agreements to some of his goofier ideas.

I appreciated this edition’s extra COVID-related chapters—a very thoughtful and informative addition after issues with the first round of publication (or so I’ve heard).
